Michael P. Phipps
Managing Director
Michael Phipps is a managing director at New Republic Partners and serves on the firm’s executive committee and investment committee. He is actively involved in all aspects of portfolio management for the firm’s clients, including asset allocation, portfolio construction, and investment diligence.
He has extensive experience in endowment management and asset management for large institutional and high-net-worth clients.
Prior to joining the firm, Michael was a managing director at Threadridge Investment Partners, the investment arm of The Springs Company, a fully integrated, single family office and holding company. While managing several multi-asset class portfolios for the family office and its associated foundations, Michael co-led investments across a range of channels, including primary funds, co-investments, and direct equity and debt investments.
Previously, Michael was the investment director at Davidson College where he led the research and investment processes for the endowment alongside the school’s CIO.
Prior to Davidson, Michael was a vice president at Morgan Creek Capital Management where he served on the investment team that managed $7.5 billion in institutional and high-net-worth assets. While based in the firm’s Hong Kong office, he led due diligence on Asia-based fund managers and monitored the firm’s public investments across the Asian region.
He began his career as an investment analyst at UNC Management Company, which manages the endowment for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and other related school foundations.
Michael received his B.S. with honors in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead-Cain scholar. He received his MBA with honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Michael serves on the investment committees for Providence Day School and the Belk Foundation. He is a CAIA charter holder.
